Where to walk your dog in Glasgow

Glasgow’s parks and green spaces are open to dog walkers under Scotland’s access rights, as long as your dog stays under proper control and you pick up after it. And so you don’t have to walk alone, Wouf & Go shows the walks other owners organise near you or anywhere in Glasgow.

Parks and open spaces

Glasgow City Council provides dog waste bins in many parks, and its Community Enforcement Officers target dog fouling in parks, streets, communal areas and play areas.

Walking under the Outdoor Access Code

Access rights apply to dog walkers as long as dogs are under proper control. In recreation areas and public places, keep your dog close at heel or on a short lead so it doesn’t worry other people.

Farm animals and wildlife

If your walk crosses fields on the edge of the city, keep your dog out of those with young farm animals, and on a short lead or close at heel near any livestock. From April to July, keep it close in areas where birds nest on the ground.

Rules to know before you go

  • Pick up after your dog in parks, streets, closes and back greens: the fixed penalty is £80, rising to £100 if unpaid within 28 days.
  • Keep your dog under proper control at all times.
  • Use a short lead in breeding areas from April to July, and near livestock.
  • Never let your dog worry or attack farm animals.

Before you set a meeting point

Pick a park gate or landmark as the meeting point and say whether the walk stays on lead. Glasgow weather changes quickly: plan a route with some shelter and a shorter option for a first meet.

Find group dog walks in Glasgow and near you

Walking together is a great way to socialise your dog and meet other owners in your area. On Wouf & Go, members post their walks on a map with the meeting point, date, length and who can join.

  1. Open the map: it centres on Glasgow or on your location.
  2. Pick a walk in your area and check the details.
  3. Ask to join, or post your own walk if none suits you.
